The Epstein Case and Double Standards: A Reading of Contemporary Moral Frameworks

The world has never spoken of the perpetrator's religion in the Epstein case, nor of the intellectual backgrounds that contributed to the formulation of those crimes that shook the global conscience. What is notable in this context is the absence of any real concern regarding the icons of New Atheism who were among his regular guests; no one demanded urgent intellectual revisions or what is termed the renewal of their intellectual discourse.
The world treats such cases as mere individual crimes and does not go beyond that to question the ideologies that influence their behavior, whereas it links crime to the perpetrator's religion only if they belong to an oppressed nation, as Sheikh Shama'il al-Nadwi pointed out in one of his famous debates.
The Moral Vacuum in the Materialist Vision
The atheistic worldview may lead to a moral vacuum similar to what appeared in the Epstein case; in a world without a fixed moral reference, it becomes difficult to define a clear standard for judging actions. An American journalist, in his research titled The Orgy of Modernity Advocates noted that those who claim the world is meaningless often do so to justify their whims, falling into immoralities while maintaining their social image.
The consensus of humanity today on criminalizing these acts raises a deeper question about the source of the moral standards by which we judge actions in the absence of purpose and destiny in materialist philosophies.
In conclusion, it is the duty of the contemporary Muslim to be aware of these contradictions and to exercise the role of alternative media that seeks truths and analyzes them with a critical mind, away from the ready-made templates imposed by the dominant discourse.
