The Concept of True Enlightenment in the Light of Divine Revelation

The concept of true enlightenment does not derive its legitimacy from deficient human ideas or fleeting material civilizations; rather, it is the Divine Light that Allah, Glorified and Exalted, sent down as guidance for humanity in His Infallible Revelation.
The Noble Qur'an has affirmed this meaning in various places, including His saying:
{And We have sent down to you a manifest light}
And His saying:
{And He will provide for you a light by which you will walk}
The ultimate truth that every seeker of truth must realize is that there is no light except that which Allah has provided, as He, the Almighty, said: {And he for whom Allah has not appointed light, for him there is no light}.
Between Worldly Science and the Light of Religion
No matter how high a nation rises in civilization or worldly sciences, it remains in the darkness of wandering unless it is illuminated by the light of religion. True reform begins by returning to the path of the predecessors (Salaf) of this Ummah, as Imam Malik ibn Anas — may Allah have mercy on him — established when he said: "The latter part of this Ummah will not be rectified except by that which rectified its beginning."
To achieve this practical enlightenment, a Muslim should apply himself to rigorous legal (Shari'i) knowledge, beginning with foundational books such as Riyad al-Salihin with the explanation of Sheikh Ibn Uthaymeen, while maintaining a daily portion of the Qur'an for reflection, aided by concise commentaries such as Al-Mukhtasar fi al-Tafsir.
