The Reality of Contemporary Enlightenment: A Bridge to Atheism and a Path to Skepticism

Whoever contemplates the history of intellectual movements in Europe finds those known as the Enlightenment thinkers who raised slogans of interpreting religion according to their whims under the pretext of renewal; only a few decades passed before the continent became a breeding ground for explicit atheism. This historical experience reveals to us a dangerous mechanism that begins with audacity toward the sacred text and ends with the loss of faith.

The Methodology of Gradual Skepticism

This intellectual game relies on stripping the believer's heart of its reverence for Revelation, sometimes by casting doubt on the texts, and at other times by claiming that the Prophetic Hadith does not align with logic. Once the sanctity of religion falls from the heart, the path becomes paved for the reception of atheistic doubts.

Today, we see the same scene repeated in our Arab reality under the same name, where those who call themselves Enlightenment thinkers emerge. In reality, they offer neither knowledge nor rigorous research, but rather a loose skepticism that rests on no scholarly foundation.

Characteristics of the Contemporary Enlightenment Current

The features of this current can be summarized in several points clearly visible in their discourse:

• Constant attacks on the Prophetic Sunnah and authentic Hadiths.

• Mockery of the Ummah's scholars and belittling its righteous predecessors (Salaf).

• Hiding behind the slogan of exercising reason to pass off personal whims far removed from the standards of inference.

The manipulation of sacred texts is not freedom of thought, but rather the first path toward intellectual ruin. Religion is not a playground for tampering, and whoever approaches these paths places their foot on the threshold of atheism, even if they do not declare it.
