The Phenomenon of Science Popularization in the Islamic World: A Reading of Methodology and Objectives

There is a phenomenon worthy of pause and reflection beginning to spread across our Islamic world: science popularization programs that enjoy generous support and wide reach, such as the program Al-Daheeh and the program Fi Al-Hadara and others. These programs raise major questions regarding the entities supporting them and the purpose of directing discourse toward the Arab viewer in a specific path and with a particular methodology.
When a content creator addresses wondrous signs in the creation of living beings and then completely neglects any religious commentary—mentioning no Quranic verse nor referring to the wisdom of the Creator, Glory be to Him—we are faced with a reductive materialist analysis. After hearing the opening greeting, the viewer finds nothing in the content that links science to faith; rather, they find a total immersion in the materialist worldview.
The danger lies in shaping the consciousness of new generations according to a scientistic (Scientism) outlook that settles for the material analysis of cosmic phenomena and excludes the unseen and Divine wisdom. The episode on the Camel in the Al-Daheeh program is but one example of this discourse that confines existence to its purely material framework.
We are witnessing a funded phenomenon aimed at tinting the Arab mind with a scientistic flavor foreign to its identity, which necessitates caution and awareness of the nature of the content presented under the guise of science and simplification.
