Great Reward in Simple Remembrance: Reflections on the Hadith of One Hundred Glorifications

It is from the grace of Allah, the Almighty, upon His servants that He has established for them gates of goodness that are easy to perform yet profound in impact, elevating ranks and multiplying rewards. Among the most emphasized of these gates are the morning and evening remembrances (adhkar) established by the Prophet ﷺ, specifically before sunrise and after the Asr prayer.
The purified Sunnah contains explicit encouragement to maintain four comprehensive remembrances: Subhan Allah, Al-Hamdu lillah, Allahu Akbar, and La ilaha illa Allah—one hundred times each. This practice, despite its simplicity, carries rewards that none but Allah can encompass.
The Prophet ﷺ said: 'Glorify Allah (Subhan Allah) a hundred times, for it is equivalent to freeing a hundred slaves from the descendants of Isma'il. Praise Allah (Al-Hamdu lillah) a hundred times, for it is equivalent to providing a hundred horses saddled for the sake of Allah. Magnify Allah (Allahu Akbar) a hundred times, for it is equivalent to offering a hundred sacrificial camels. And declare the oneness of Allah (La ilaha illa Allah) a hundred times, for it fills what is between the heavens and the earth.'
This noble Hadith opens vast horizons for the believer to realize the value of time and the tongue engaged in remembrance. Glorification equals the manumission of slaves, praise equals equipping horses for Jihad, magnification equals the sacrifice of camels, and the declaration of oneness fills the space between heaven and earth with goodness and blessing.
Therefore, the Muslim should keep his tongue moist with the remembrance of Allah, maintaining presence of heart with every glorification and magnification; for faith and righteous deeds increase through this constant connection with the Creator of the heavens and the earth.
