The Blessing of Adherence: The Impact of Sleep Adhkar on Physical Well-being and Vitality

Among the greatest blessings Allah bestows upon a servant is the success in following the Sunnah of the Chosen One ﷺ, particularly those remembrances (adhkar) that carry within them physical blessing and psychological strength. This includes what has been narrated regarding seeking aid through remembrance against the hardships of daily life.

I was struck by what Sheikh Muhammad Ismail al-Muqaddim mentioned in his book "Al-Afiyah" (Well-being), when he addressed the hadith of Fatima (may Allah be pleased with her), who came to the Prophet ﷺ asking for a servant due to the exhaustion of labor. He directed her and Ali (may Allah be pleased with them) to that which is better for them than a servant.

Shall I not teach you something better than what you asked for? When you go to your beds, say 'Allahu Akbar' thirty-four times, 'Subhan Allah' thirty-three times, and 'Alhamdulillah' thirty-three times; for that is better for you than a servant.

This remembrance is not merely words uttered, but a drawing of strength from the All-Powerful, the Almighty. Scholars have noted that whoever maintains these glorifications before sleep finds a strength in their following day that suffices them from seeking help elsewhere, granting them vigor and health in their body. How beautiful it is for one to conclude their day by magnifying the Creator, only to begin their tomorrow with the aid and success of Allah.
