Classifying Contemporary Atheism: From Materialism to Esotericism

Atheism in its contemporary reality is divided into three main patterns, varying in their methods and degrees of danger to the creedal consciousness of the Muslim, as follows:
Materialist Atheism: The traditional pattern based on the denial of the existence of the Creator, and the total rejection of prophethood and the unseen.
Spiritual Atheism: Represented by deviant philosophical paths that promote concepts of energy, chakras, tarot, and the so-called twin flame; these are modern paganisms wrapped in a false spiritual cover.
Esoteric Atheism: Considered the most dangerous type, as it deliberately distorts the indications of Sharia texts, corrupting their meanings and twisting words to pass deviant beliefs from within the religious framework.
Hierarchy of Danger
If we look at the impact of these types on the fitrah and society, we find that esoteric atheism tops the list of danger due to its concealment behind texts, followed by spiritual atheism which invades souls through the gateway of innovated spiritualities, and then explicit materialist atheism.
Therefore, the Muslim must possess insight and total vigilance when reading or listening, to distinguish truth from falsehood and safeguard his creed from these intellectual pitfalls.
