Women in Islam: Unparalleled Dignity and Care

I once witnessed a striking scene in a hospital: an elderly woman arrived in the middle of the night surrounded by four men. The question might arise: would not one man have sufficed to fulfill the duty, purchase medicine, and attend to her affairs?
But the wonder increased when I learned there was a car outside the hospital full of men, all waiting for any command or direction from her. This scene was not an exception; it was repeated very often and is the norm for elderly women in our society.
In those moments, I held back a tear that almost escaped my eye, contemplating the greatness of this religion. How did Islam provide women with this level of care and esteem? How did it raise a son who excels in companionship, a husband who treats his wife with kindness, and build a kingdom of homes where a woman sits upon the throne in her old age, with everyone at her beck and call?
This social system, which guarantees a woman her dignity and care throughout all stages of her life—especially in her old age—is, by God, a divine miracle and a brilliant proof of the loftiness of Islamic legislation and its exquisite concern for the human being.
