The Phenomenon of Hidden Atheism: A Reading in Light of Surat al-Baqarah

One of the most dangerous challenges facing contemporary Islamic consciousness is the phenomenon of concealed atheism; a path where the individual does not explicitly declare their denial, but rather hides behind the mantle of opposing extremism or critiquing groups, using this as a pretext to attack the noble Sharia and distort religious constants via digital platforms.
This path is not new in its essence, but rather an extension of the path of hypocrisy (Nifaq) against which Divine Revelation warned. If we contemplate the opening of Surah Al-Baqarah, we find that the Holy Qur’an has established for us a precise scale to expose this group that manifests the opposite of what they harbor within.
And of the people are some who say, "We believe in Allah and the Last Day," but they are not believers. (8) They [think to] deceive Allah and those who believe, but they deceive not except themselves and perceive [it] not. (9) In their hearts is disease, so Allah has increased their disease; and for them is a painful punishment because they [habitually] used to lie. (10)
Surah Al-Baqarah, Verses 8-10
Those who raise the slogans of enlightenment and constructive criticism while in reality seeking to demolish the foundations of religion, the Qur’an has accurately described them in the Almighty's saying:
And when it is said to them, "Do not cause corruption on the earth," they say, "We are but reformers." (11) Unquestionably, it is they who are the corrupters, but they perceive [it] not. (12)
Surah Al-Baqarah, Verses 11-12
Therefore, it is incumbent upon the Muslim to remain vigilant, distinguishing between methodical scientific criticism and attempts at intellectual infiltration aimed at destabilizing certainty under glittering titles, in order to protect oneself and society from these destructive ideas.
