Does the multiverse hypothesis contradict Islamic creed, and does it possess any genuine scientific basis?

Many questions are raised regarding the possibility of universes other than our observed one. The truth is that this idea remains within the realm of theoretical speculation, lacking definitive empirical evidence. The renowned physicist John Polkinghorne describes this hypothesis by saying: "The multiverse is not physics, it is science fiction." This sentiment is echoed by physicist Russell Stannard when he stated that there is not a single physical equation that supports the multiverse hypothesis.

The Scientific Perspective and the Inevitable Beginning

Even if we concede the hypothesis of these universes for the sake of argument, it does not alter the existential reality. The scientist Alan Guth—one of the most prominent figures to discuss this issue—maintains that even in the case of a multiverse, there must be a defined beginning, which returns us to the necessity of the First Cause.

Compatibility with the Perspective of Faith

From a Sharia perspective, there is no prohibition against conceiving the existence of other worlds; rather, it may serve as a gateway to glorifying the Creator and recognizing the vastness of His power. He, Exalted is He, is the Lord of all worlds, as declared in the opening of the Book:

{[All] praise is [due] to Allah, Lord of the worlds}

Surah Al-Fatihah, Verse 2

In summary, this hypothesis currently lacks scientific proof, but should it be proven one day, it would only serve as new evidence of the grandeur and brilliance of Divine creation.
